Intestinal infections with E. coli bacteria can cause a severe form of calf scours. To protect against E. coli scours takes a vaccine that contains a component of E. coli bacteria, but vaccines that contain whole cell E. coli bacteria can be highly reactive. Because they contain the gram negative cell wall, they are more likely to cause injection site lumps and bumps, abortion, or even worse, death.
E. coli consist of a cell within a cell wall, and filaments – called pili – projecting from the cell wall.

GUARDIAN manufacturing harvests the pili for use in the vaccine.
This creates a clean product with high concentrations of K99 pili.
